                  Prepared Products

I have found some prepared products that I use all the time with no adverse reactions. Knowing what products you can buy will make the diet a lot easier for you! Below are some of the prepared products that I use. Check our magazines for time-saving recipes using these products.

(Please make note of the comments next to the bacon, yogurt, and Tropicana OJ!)

Please note that I have not received written confirmation of legality from the manufacturers themselves, unless specifically noted next to the product. I am, however, extremely sensitive to illegal ingredients and have had no reactions from these products.

It is advisable, though, to always obtain a written statement from the company to verify whether the product has any illegal ingredients that are not listed on the label.

If the product was approved by Elaine Gottschall already, I have noted that next to the product as well. As with any questions about certain foods, always refer to "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" for answers as to legality. Also see the Legal/Illegal List on the official SCD website.

If you receive a written statement from the manufacturer proving any of these products to not be SCD-legal, please forward a scanned copy of the statement to me at erin@nomorecrohns.com. I will review it and take the product off of this page.

Thanks!

From Trader Joe's:
Trader Joe's Customer Service stated to me in an email about whether their products contain anything other than what is stated on the label, and about the peach halves in particular:
"Thank you for contacting us with your concerns. Trader Joe's will always
list every ingredient used in any of the Trader Joe's brand name
products. There is nothing else added to the Peach Halves other than
what is listed on the ingredient label.

Thank you for shopping at Trader Joe's .

Lara Bar legal flavors: Ginger Snap, Pecan Pie, Cherry Pie, Cashew Cookie, Apple Pie, Pistachio, Lemon Bar, Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter Cookie, Coconut Cream Pie (but be cautious about coconut especially at the beginning of the diet, as coconut is very fibrous and could be an irritant on a healing digestive system.)

Crushed garlic                 Just Pomegranate Juice         100% Wild Blueberry Juice

Also at Trader Joe's: Small bags of almond flour (be aware though that some people do not do well with it because it contains the skins), freeze-dried pineapple, & unsalted nuts. (Approved as legal by Elaine Gottschall)

NOTE: As with any prepared product, make a note of whether it gives you any symptoms. If so, discontinue use. Not all companies detail which ingredients make up less than 2% of the total product, so a sure way of finding out what is in the product is to write to them and ask them for a list of ingredients in writing before you try a product. Refer to "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" for more instructions about prepared products.
